Conversation #4: Learning in a Time of Abundance (and Uncertainty)! An interview with Dave Cormier

Welcome to our latest in the EnT conversation series!

I am absolutely stoked that Dave Cormier agreed to join us for a conversation about his excellent new book Learning in a Time of Abundance (John Hopkins Press)!

Dave is, among many other things, Digital Learning Specialist with the Office of Open Learning at the University of Windsor where he handles a diverse range of responsibilities and clients.

I’ve been aware of Dave and colleagues’ work for as long as I’ve been involved in the learning technology field… going on fifteen years at this point… as rowdy, and boisterous, and motley as that field can be… Dave has constantly been an advocate for teaching and learning approaches, especially in the e-learning sphere, that value inquiry… not accepting the status quo… to question everything…

Honestly, I’d prefer to let the conversation speak for itself… it’s hard to beat a chat with somebody as smart, incisive, and all-around knowledgeable about the micro- and the macro- within our… as mentioned… ROWDY professional and academic area… whether we’re calling that ed tech… learning tech… educational design… the New What Next… or what-have-you!

What I’ve appreciated about watching some of the public aspects of Dave’s career… whether conference presentation, online videos, academic papers, or blogs… is how committed he is to engaging fully with whomever he’s addressing… bringing in personal examples, using metaphors and approaches to communicating which invite thoughtful participation from people outside the field of professional educators… this ability is not as common as one might expect…

Much appreciation and respect to Dave for responding quickly via LinkedIn and for his willingness to chat with us today! Learning in a Time of Abundance is a significant resource which we’ll be coming back to on the show in the coming weeks and months, for sure…

Dave’s blog has been running since at least 2006… it is a pretty amazing resource because it’s highly readable and also… it’s voluminous! It’s all recommended…
