As I’ve reflected in the notes over at the music podcast, it’s seldom an artist transforms an entire format. That’s what Steve did to popular music. Or… music, generally.
I’m putting this out here now, weeks after this episode was recorded and after most of these notes were placed in WordPress…
Lots going on “behind the scenes”, you might say… and for sure one thing I’ve learned over the years… is to pace yourself… and that means knowing when to scale back artistic and/or creative outlets… it’s a matter of leaving water at the bottom of the well so it can refill overnight… to paraphrase Ernest Hemingway…
ANYWAY
One thing Steve was was productive. So I’m determined to get three episodes of the EnT out the door today. There’s probably more Steve commentary on the way in those notes as well. Sorry / You’re welcome.
The Antikythera Mechanism (Classical Wisdom)
The ancient world is, in many ways, a thing to be discovered as vast and deep as any ocean.
The fact this computing machine dating back to second century BC could be found on a seabed… and reconstructed to something functional… or capable of presenting its function in a meaningful way… is astonishing to me…
Another aspect of why this is so interesting to me is… what other similar innovations or inventions have yet to be recovered… or will never be…
What we think of as human cognition, and the ability to reason abstractly and to impact the physical world with products of that abstraction applied through manipulation of that world… what we think of as the human condition… has really only been around for the equivalent of an eye-blink when compared to the total history of life on planet Earth… how small and frail any single life is underpins why these artifacts… and the narratives and lives that led to their recovery… and why this is of such interest!

Bandcamp / Jesse Discography
Over at the music podcast, Dan and I have been known to extoll upon the (post-)modern phenomena associated with The Algorithm. In this case, I’ve stepped away from it… at least by a half-pace or two!
Bandcamp is actually an awesome app, is what I’m trying to get at! That it relies, largely, on community members buying and selling proprietary music files feels in a weird way both anachronistic and… community like… the fact that you can buy physical music and/or merch feels a lot closer to being able to support the artist in the streaming era… wherein algorithmic production and consumption of music has essentially hollowed out the ability of most musical artists to make recording music by itself any kind of viable economic enterprise…
I could go on! And on the music podcast we do! I will be spending more time with the Bandcamp app, because post-purchase it functions as an excellent streaming platform for the things you’ve purchased… the downloadable music files are, at least for me, almost never touched…
This is all related to downsizing… and to Jesse… a Frankie Stubbs band while Leatherface was on several years’ hiatus in the mid-90’s… it’s absolutely brilliant emotional highly intelligent thoughtful punk that has long been out of print until this spring… and while I wait for the gorgeous colored two-LP limited run Discography vinyl to arrive from the Sunderland, UK via the Bandcamp app… I’ve been streaming it incessantly… for more than a week…
What the YouTube and/or Apple Music apps’ algorithms make of this knowledge is anyone’s guess!

Clear communication in education
Results took the form of five primary communication themes:
- expectations of and problems with technology;
- problems associated with distance;
- perceptions of nontraditional students;
- encouraging the use of technology; and
- encouraging student interaction.
If interaction is to take place, the teacher must encourage it.

Our data indicates that unguided communication of a Community of Practice can lead to some undesirable effects on the course.
All four theoretical concepts: ZPD, Communities of Practice, Conversational Framework and the E-moderation model, have utilised communication as a facilitator for learning.
