In this conversation, Doug and I had the absolute privilege of chatting with Dr. Tony Bates of the Open University (UK), University of British Columbia, Contact North, his own consulting firm, and many other affiliations both formal and informal too numerous to list here!
Tony is among a handful of researchers who have, over more than four decades, helped elevate the practice and development of distance and online learning in ways macro, meso, and micro… all substantive, informed by data, and taking into account settings, contexts, and practices across the larger, international scene(s) as well!

We are unreservedly stoked at this particular audio! #ednontech

Matt’s Notes
How little I have to actually add by way of further commentary!
Dr. Bates is among the top e-learning researchers and practitioners of all time. You can switch out “e-learning” with your choice of semantic preference… “computer-assisted learning”… “distance learning”… “online learning”…
Tony and associates and colleagues have explored a wide swath of the Canadian and international research, practice, and implementation of significant, formative technologies in real time. Tony was there when the Internet first started being used to teach. My career… and Doug’s career… and many others likely reading this… began way, way after…
Do yourself the immense favour of checking Tony’s website!: https://www.tonybates.ca/
So… I can’t offer further resources than can be provided at Tony’s website! It is updated on the regular! And… he is… selectively… available to speaking engagements and the like! As evidenced by his participation in the EnT convos!
In all seriousness, I can’t think of a higher objective for this show than what we achieved today. Doug has told me emphatically he agrees!
Thanks, Dr. Bates, for everything! And thanks to you for checking it out!
