Well, we made it through a successful demo!
Click below to watch the video… and/or stream audio… doubtless at some point there will be a download capability… but probably it is unlikely people will want the trailer…
Show Notes
This was all about getting the thing up and running!
After some initial trial and error, Skype was determined to be the best web conferencing platform for EnT… mainly because it is free, we’re both familiar with it, and it can provide a downloadable recording of a meeting for up to 30 days…
Matt used TechSmith Camtasia to create the video and audio files… he started with the free trial version but then had to upgrade in order to produce a video free of watermarks…
Audio clips were downloaded for free, and free of copyright, from Pixabay… images were downloaded from Unsplash…
Doug is a really big fan of ukulele music… and Matt goes for alternative, punk, metal, and whatnot…
Doug is in charge of choosing the topics… and setting the schedule… Matt is the primary on getting the pod to WordPress…
Matt unpackaged a Maono podcasting kit… and Betron headphones… Doug took out his headphone and mic combo during the Skype meeting…
Matt then fiddled with online file compressors… and Camtasia… and YouTube… and God, do those things run slowly on a laptop… and slow up everything else… Matt misses having a desktop computer at work…
For next time, Matt’s going to get a better camera… higher res… than the in-built camera in his laptop… there also has to be a way of getting less loss of visual quality between producing the Camtasia video file and uploading to YouTube…
Very likely we’ll be looking at the documentation on getting pods listed on Apple, Spotify, etc. before our first full episode… shortly before Canadian Thanksgiving… or not? Maybe we’ll just watch that awesome episode of WKRP… and post gifs about it and whatnot…
Some resources which we like… this week, anyway…
*This list was compiled by Matt… no guarantees as to whether Doug likes these or not…
Hybrid Pedagogy Books: Thoughtful commentary by some of the best in the business… practical discussions around major issues…
The International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning (IRRODL): High impact academic research on ed tech and e-learning…
Ecampus Ontario and BCcampus: Providing a wide range of resources and supports from their respective areas… including e-text repositories; H5P repositories; seminars and webinars, and various pro-d opportunities for post-secondary educators… and others…
Half an Hour: This is Stephen Downes’ non-ed tech blog… it’s ed tech… but not specifically so… it links to his other voluminous websites and writings… notably on connectivism…
Educause Horizon Report: I was glad when Educause rescued the Horizon Report(s) when NMC went bankrupt… I don’t necessarily look at this closely… but I’m glad to know it’s out there…
TRU Podcasting: This is an all-purpose resource for getting started with academic and/or scholarly podcasting… not that this is an academic or scholarly podcast… Resources prepared by the TRU Open Learning – Learning Technology and Innovations team…
There will be usually be resources here… but not always!
