Matt’s Notes
Welcome, and thanks for joining us for the latest EnT! On this outing we’re speaking to edtech project design! Of which this podcast thingy may or may not be included! Please give it a view or a listen… or both!
We project that good times are to be had both video-wise and audio-wise! #ednontech
Thompson Rivers University EDUC class(es)
I know that I spoke to this in the notes for the last episode!
But I feel like:
- A: My bandwidth for topics outside the podcast, lectures, conversations, and work… is limited!
- B: It is a significant honor to be invited to speak to EDUC students: for many reasons!
So… in terms of podcasting… project management… and so forth:
This commentary is, effectively, the most effective manner I can think of right now… to move the project of this podcast forward both generally and through this specific episode!
The video lecture for EDUC 5000: Learning about Learning currently has 89 views on YouTube… and the lecture for EDUC 5040: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion has 98 YT views… which means these lectures attract roughly ten times the viewership of a regular episode!
In terms of workflow: once this post is finished, I’ll be recording a solo lecture for EDUC 5030: Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning! While I’ve yet to determine exactly what we will be speaking to, I’m thinking of travel… journeying… as a metaphor… inasmuch as anyone studying in a post-secondary Education program… whether at the bachelors, masters, or doctoral levels… should be prepared to change positions and/or roles over the course of a career… that’s been the case for the vast majority of educators I’ve encountered over the years… whether shifting geographically… or between organizations… or between roles in the same organization… change… travel… journeying… is one of the only constants within the career…
I’m also looking at writing a straight-up blog post later this week… for the express purpose of removing open Chrome tabs and emails-to-self… a worthy project in and of itself, I think!

Identification and definition of the problem/need.
- Is there a real problem/need that is worth addressing?
- If a “problem,” what are the symptoms, causes, and effects?
- If a “need,” who and where are the “needy”?
- What are the probable costs and benefits of a “solution”?
- Assignment of a priority and a budget-range to the project.

For the past several decades, K-12 schooling has been an area of interest for investors who view it as a virtually untapped market to be exploited.
The increased marketization of educational practices materialized through the transfer of control over curricula, teaching, and infrastructure to for-profit EdTech firms is one that has in the past been accompanied by a standardized, aspatial view of schooling where the student’s lived experiences and connections to communities are viewed as a barrier … revealed highlight that such systems are based on a narrow view of the role of schooling.
