I have yet to unsubscribe from <em>The New Yorker<\/em>. This story is from their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2024\/03\/04\/inside-north-koreas-forced-labor-program-in-china\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Feb 25\/24 newsletter<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I lived in South Korea for more than a year at the beginning of my teaching career, back in 2006. My kids&#8217; mom is Korean. South Korea is one of the most dynamic, vibrant countries in the world&#8230; that I&#8217;ve experienced&#8230; and the border, the so-called &#8220;demilitarized zone&#8221; (DMZ) is one of the weirdest, spookiest places I&#8217;ve ever been&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This story is no doubt heartbreaking&#8230; as is the complicity of North American consumers in creating demand for cheap consumer goods from China&#8230; sigh&#8230; on second thought, I&#8217;m not going to delete this one after all&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Eat Like a Stoic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anybody following this podcast or any of my social media knows my deep affinity for Stoic philosophy&#8230; particularly the <em>Meditations<\/em> of  Marcus Aurelius&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donald J. Robertson is an author and academic who has written several novel books on Marcus&#8230; including a graphic novel&#8230; and he also has a podcast  and a Substack newsletter <em><a href=\"https:\/\/donaldrobertson.substack.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stoicism: Philosophy as a Way of Life<\/a><\/em>&#8230; both of which are worth your time! And, come to think of it, the Substack newsletter is a pretty cool thing as a format, generally&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ANYWAY&#8230; this edition has some lively, informative historical info and commentary&#8230; and a recipe for &#8220;Stoic Soup&#8221;&#8230; however, I doubt given my general disposition against significant food preparation&#8230; that I will actually prepare this&#8230; awesome though it surely is! Anyone who follows this podcast or my social media knows\u2026 how much I love Cormac McCarthy&#8217;s novels\u2026 and perhaps especially <em>Blood Meridian<\/em>. And so I learned about this very cool, <a href=\"https:\/\/earth.google.com\/web\/data=MkEKPwo9CiExbzMxbE1sNmFoek5jV1ZhUWNZZEFKME9jM0Q0QzlzSUoSFgoUMEY5QkU3RDdBQjI1MjIxOUYwMUUgAQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Social Studies-esque rendering <\/a>of more than 120 locations from across the southern US and deep into Mexico as described in the novel\u2026 this is AWESOME\u2026 not to put too fine a point on it\u2026 and it&#8217;s this kind of thing that keeps me subscribed to weekly summaries of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/cormacmccarthy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reddit Cormac McCarthy page<\/a>\u2026 among others!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">[POEM] Bukowski &#8211; 2 p.m. beer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Poetry\/comments\/1bppkmw\/poem_bukowski_2_pm_beer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">of Reddit<\/a>! If some aspects of this overload reflect the contemporary potentiality of new devices and new infrastructures \u2026 we cannot consider this phenomenon to be one that is completely new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">by the dynamics of a network society and participatory culture to delineate a digital media ecosystem as productive learning environment for students and teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ciastellardi, M.
