For the foreseeable future&#8230; i.e., until I have a &#8220;regular&#8221; job again&#8230; whether in a week or six months or longer&#8230; I&#8217;m treating this podcast and the music podcast&#8230; and other kinds of writing&#8230; as a full-time job&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And so&#8230; reaching out to colleagues through LinkedIn&#8230; who just happen to be some of the top people in the e-learning \/ ed tech \/ learning design area. I&#8217;m not saying who until the episodes have been recorded&#8230; as a matter of principle&#8230; but as I sit here typing these notes early Monday morning&#8230; we have two interviews scheduled within the next 72 hours with people who I think will bring A LOT to the show&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As such, it was absolutely brilliant speaking with Dave Cormier a few days ago about his excellent, highly necessary <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.press.jhu.edu\/books\/title\/12862\/learning-time-abundance\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.press.jhu.edu\/books\/title\/12862\/learning-time-abundance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Learning in a Time of Abundance<\/a><\/em>&#8230; and the Uncertainty conference in July&#8230; AKA <a href=\"https:\/\/uncertaintycommunity.com\/uncertainty-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">#ShrugCon<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyway, once we have interviews posted with 9 or 10 of the top e-learning people in the world in the next few weeks&#8230; we may be in a position to begin work on the long-gestating ED NON-TECH (ENT) BOOK&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Again, it&#8217;s a function of not having a &#8220;regular&#8221; job that I have time to act on this stuff&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You might say it&#8217;s downright fortuitous&#8230; and that&#8217;s saying nothing of my interviews scheduled this week for a couple of &#8220;regular&#8221; jobs&#8230; either of which could be highly rad&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TRU Education 5040<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please click here to check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/analogue-trope.ca\/podcast\/classes-and-lectures\/educ-5040-equity-diversity-and-inclusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ed non-Tech lecture on EDI<\/a>! There are currently 77 comments in total&#8230; with more on the way!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Turning 46<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking of change&#8230; and changes&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the one hand, any birthday in your forties really is a nothing year. I am squarely in the middle of life. My grandfather passed away around this time last year&#8230; at the age of 90. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I&#8217;m lucky, I have half my life left. But as per the Stoics, as long as I&#8217;m living a good life&#8230; then I should be ready to go anytime&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What I can say at this point is that I have the best family, friends, and colleagues in the world. And over this past weekend, I realized that again writ large. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Backyard hangs. Long drives. Family heirloom beer steins. World-class grilled sausages. Lemon meringue pie and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Cross-country phone calls and long-distance doggo pictures. One cat and then another. Piles of craft beer. Heavy food at Boston Pizza. Auntie hugs that nearly take the wind out of you.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yeah, more of these things please. I am one lucky self-employed son-of-a-gun. Somehow I&#8217;ve been a fan of punk and other heavy music since I was a child&#8230; but had missed Larry Limbs until around two years ago&#8230; when I embarked on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A) Starting these podcasts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">B) Buying many (many!) thousands of dollars of vinyl records<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;both of which were functions of being without work for the first time in many (many!) years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Larry operates on a basic principle: three-piece Chicago punk with two singers that veers into pop territory, but really owes more to dark, ugly folk music than anything else&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s danceable as fuck, is how I&#8217;d put it if I were writing these notes for the other podcast!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve gotten the Flappy logo as a forearm tattoo, and I&#8217;ve direct messaged the band&#8217;s IG and guitarist Chris McCaughan IG many (many!) times&#8230; the only thing I can say is that if anyone from Larry appears on the music podcast to interview, it&#8217;ll be a minor miracle&#8230; but on the other hand, neither Larry nor Chris have blocked me at this point&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ANYWAY<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because they have so much talent, Brendan Kelly and Neil Hennessy from Larry started the Falcon, which also includes Dan Andriano from Alkaline Trio and Dave Hause from Philly&#8217;s The Loved Ones&#8230; Brendan moving from bass to guitar and primary vocal duties&#8230; with Dan on bass and some vocals, Neil on drums, and Dave on guitar and some other vocals. They have at least two full-length releases&#8230; including Gather Up the Chaps&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It slays is all. And I can&#8217;t stop listening to it right now.
