We would like to especially welcome students from EDUC 5040: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion from the Thompson Rivers University School of Education, taught by Dr. Pamela Gurney!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this discussion, we&#8217;ve invited Dr. Hassan Arif, a lawyer, writer, educator, and civil servant based in Victoria, BC to speak to EDI within his teaching practice at the post-secondary level both at University of New Brunswick, and the University of Victoria. I quickly googled and found this biography of him:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Ibn-Khaldun\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ibn Khald\u016bn | 14th Century Muslim Historian &amp; Philosopher | Britannica<\/a>\u00a0*<strong>Basically an example of a significant thinker outside western Europe<\/strong>*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/analogue-trope.ca\/podcast\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/8-Borrows-Laws-Indigenous-Ethics.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The second article<\/a> is by John Borrows, a law professor at the University of Victoria who has played a major role in the Indigenous Law Program (where one can do a degree in Indigenous and Common Law). It shows the importance of storytelling in many indigenous societies. Here\u2019s a bio of John Borrows:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/law\/facultystaff\/facultydirectory\/borrows.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/law\/facultystaff\/facultydirectory\/borrows.php<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The<a href=\"http:\/\/analogue-trope.ca\/podcast\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/2018-IVa-How-Toronto-Became-Toronto.pdf\"> third article <\/a>is about how immigration and multiculturalism essentially made the Toronto we know, by a Distinguished Fellow at the Wilson Center in Washington DC, Blair Ruble. Here\u2019s a bio of Ruble:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilsoncenter.org\/person\/blair-ruble\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blair A.
