within the current platform&#8230; and as mentioned during the video, this means that the next episode will for certain be attempted on Zencastr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anecdotally, Matt loves having the power of a desktop computer&#8230;. and the faster internet&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had a bunch of things to say, and totally meant to add to the resources section&#8230; but&#8230; there was a lot going on this week, basically&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are interested in checking out the current state of these <em>Gigantic Open Online Programs (GOOP&#8217;s)<\/em> you could do worse than to check the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irrodl.org\/index.php\/irrodl\/search\/search?query=MooC&amp;dateFromYear=2017&amp;dateFromMonth=09&amp;dateFromDay=15&amp;dateToYear=&amp;dateToMonth=&amp;dateToDay=&amp;authors=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning (IRRODL)<\/a>, where since September, 2017&#8230; when Matt defended <a href=\"https:\/\/prism.ucalgary.ca\/handle\/11023\/4150\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">his doctoral thesis on these courses<\/a>&#8230;. there have been more than 70 academic, peer-reviewed articles published with that term in the title&#8230; which may speak to the (surprising?) longevity and viability of that format..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matt would also mention that if you are interested in looking at the field of ed tech and e-learning&#8230; both historically and holistically&#8230; it would be helpful to know about GOOP&#8217;s&#8230; inasmuch as <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/11\/04\/education\/edlife\/massive-open-online-courses-are-multiplying-at-a-rapid-pace.html\" target=\"_blank\">at their peak, they engaged hundreds of thousands of learners<\/a>&#8230; who would otherwise be pursuing learning in other formats&#8230; or not pursuing learning at all&#8230; there is a lot to be said, and a great need&#8230; for wider public awareness and engagement with the e-learning and ed tech fields generally&#8230; furthermore, despite much  justified criticism&#8230; <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irrodl.org\/index.php\/irrodl\/search\/search?query=connectivism&amp;dateFromYear=&amp;dateFromMonth=&amp;dateFromDay=&amp;dateToYear=&amp;dateToMonth=&amp;dateToDay=&amp;authors=\" target=\"_blank\">connectivism<\/a> remains a fascinating pedagogical approach and\/or concept of learning vis-\u00e0-vis the Internet, depending on where you want to go with it&#8230;  which has produced <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.ca\/scholar?q=connectivism&amp;hl=en&amp;as_sdt=0,5\" target=\"_blank\">much valuable practice and scholarship<\/a>&#8230;  whether it has any long-term longevity&#8230; is an open question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matt would like it known that, in addition to being descriptive of certain e-learning formats, Gigantic is also a brilliant single from the Pixies&#8217; Why do so many \u201ctraditional\u201d educational offerings not support so much of the population? Why is alternative only for outliers and people who can\u2019t fit into \u201ctraditional\u201d mainstream offerings?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NSAC 1913 Short Courses for people who can\u2019t come for the whole semester.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adjusting educational offerings to make schooling more available for everyone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><div class=\"h5p-iframe-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"h5p-iframe-1\" class=\"h5p-iframe\" data-content-id=\"1\" style=\"height:1px\" src=\"about:blank\" frameBorder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" title=\"Short Courses- Truro\"><\/iframe><\/div><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"624\" height=\"539\" data-id=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/analogue-trope.ca\/podcast\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/table.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/analogue-trope.ca\/podcast\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/table.jpg 624w, https:\/\/analogue-trope.ca\/podcast\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/table-300x259.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The identified benefits demonstrated that adopting self-learning and social media teaching methods helps learners manage their learning pace, and the gamification and case study methods improve students\u2019 planning and problem-solving abilities. The social media and gamification methods also enhance the creativity of learners. It was also concluded that the implementation of the flipped classroom, gamification, and self-learning methods improve students\u2019 intrinsic motivation and that the adoption of the social media method segues into lifelong learning and promotes creativity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Safapour, E., Kermanshachi, S., &amp; Taneja, P. (2019). A review of nontraditional teaching methods: Flipped classroom, gamification, case study, self-learning, and social media. Education Sciences, 9(4), 273.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mainstream and alternative schools exist at different points along a continuum between innovation and prescription, with limited opportunity for curricular cross-fertilization. While it seems unfortunate that alternative school innovations are rarely, if ever, taken up by other schools (Te Riele, 2007), transforming structural aspects of schooling takes more than good intentions. In the meantime and conversely, loose coupling serves to enable innovation within alternative school bounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Bascia, N., &amp; Maton, R. (2019). In the context of both realities and rhetoric about the knowledge economy, such credentials are increasingly important for employment and further study as well as for personal well-being<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Riele, K. T. (2007). Educational alternatives for marginalised youth.
