I read <em>Blood Meridian<\/em> right before my first son was born and also right after. I&#8217;ve read it at least once more since then&#8230; and TLA &amp; Ben \/ Lucero have been among my favorite musicians since a really really long time ago. McCarthy and his son, John Francis McCarthy, will serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n<cite><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/04\/new-regency-cormac-mccarthys-blood-meridian-john-hillcoat-1235340998\/\">Deadline<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is great news, because Hillcoat directed the adaption of McCarthy&#8217;s <em>The Road<\/em>. Hillcoat&#8217;s <em>The Proposition<\/em> is spiritually on similar Godless terrain as <em>Blood Meridian<\/em>&#8230; set as it is in desolate desert environs circa late 19th Century&#8230; and it is a work of breathtaking cruelty and violence in its own way&#8230; but to the extent that it tells a contemporary story written by no less than dark pop genius Nick Cave with music by Nick and his frequent collaborator Warren Ellis, it can be difficult to look away&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Proposition - Trailer\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G7V-CW_SUos?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<strong>Charles Joseph McCarthy Jr<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;AKA Cormac McCarthy passed away last June at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was eighty-nine, and he left an imprint on American and on world literature like few others&#8230; any legitimate conversation about prose style in popular American literary novels from the mid-seventies until today would have to include him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The part of me that mourns his passing is the same part that mourns <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundyfuneralhome.com\/obituary\/Joseph-Henderson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">my maternal grandfather<\/a>&#8230; who died one month before Cormac&#8230; Cormac was one month short of ninety&#8230; my grandfather was one month older than ninety&#8230; and furthermore, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brenansfh.com\/obituaries\/Anne-Stranach?obId=45879042\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">my paternal grandmother passed away<\/a> last November&#8230; herself just four years younger than Cormac or my grandfather&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And even more members of my family from that thirties-born generation have passed in just the past months and few years&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have little else to add here that I haven&#8217;t already spoken to&#8230; except, inspired by both Cormac&#8217;s <em>Blood Meridian<\/em>&#8230; and the songs on Ben Nichol&#8217;s EP&#8230; I wrote a ghazal&#8230; which saw publication in the first year or so that I lived in Qatar&#8230; a third of a lifetime ago, essentially&#8230; this was when I wrote and had published something like five ghazals&#8230; a form that I first learned of during my B.Ed qualification at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, NB&#8230;
