It was kind of exhilarating in its own way&#8230; and let&#8217;s agree never to do it again!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyway! This episode is all about <strong><em>Derelict, Lagan, Jetsam, &amp; Flotsam<\/em><\/strong> as per Doug&#8217;s downright POETIC title for this outing&#8230; and there&#8217;s not much I can do to top that! Doug has been quite diligent collecting various <em>educational ephemera<\/em> over the years&#8230; I for one am partial to having a sort of random-drawer going in my email&#8230; some items of which are more useful to others and\/or myself than others&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And so! Off these cargo go to destinations ultimately unknown!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Game On: Rebooting Education for Future&#8217;s Sake<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/mbrownz\/game-on-rebooting-education-for-futures-sake\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">This is a Slideshare presentation<\/a> by Mark Brown, Professor and Director of the National Institute for Digital Learning at Dublin City University&#8230; who I follow on (cough) LinkedIn and who I&#8217;ve mentioned in these notes before&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the first glimpse I&#8217;ve had at Slideshare lately, and whoa! Garish! Blocked at all turns by advertising, which doubtless disappears for a few quid per month&#8230; furthermore there&#8217;s no audio that I can discern&#8230; but the visuals are in themselves informative and compelling&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you can handle LinkedIn, I recommend visiting his profile! He is great for sharing cool work by himself and other colleagues in our area&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>What is the purpose of educational technology?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another highly readable, timely <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.edtechie.net\/edtech\/what-is-the-purpose-of-educational-technology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blog post from Martin Weller<\/a>, AKA &#8220;Ed Techie&#8221;! I&#8217;m a fan, it&#8217;s safe to say, and this post is just great. It includes the results of a snap poll on the topic in question! That sounds like a rad idea, and when your networks are as deep and substantial as Martin&#8217;s likely are, this kind of just-in-time mini-research is easily executed. Again, another person with a strong LinkedIn presence which is its own kind of thing! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Place Names of New Brunswick: Where is Home? New Brunswick Communities Past and Present: Henderson Settlement<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both sides of my mom&#8217;s family have roots in the Saint John and Southwest NB, generally&#8230; including in Queen&#8217;s County, where my grandfather&#8217;s family settled in around 1820! I posted some pictures taken by my uncle during a visit to Henderson Settlement&#8212; particularly the waterfalls!&#8212; and uploaded them to a family WhatsApp group&#8230; where my dad <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.gnb.ca\/exhibits\/communities\/Details.aspx?culture=en-CA&amp;community=1737\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/archives.gnb.ca\/exhibits\/communities\/Details.aspx?culture=en-CA&amp;community=1737\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shared this link <\/a>from the Government of New Brunswick provincial archives.
